We've committed to volunteering our team's time to activism. Each employee gets paid to spend a minimum of two hours per week on activism. This page is updated weekly to reflect what we're working on.
Below is a list of what we're doing this week - it's organized so you can easily join us in enacting change.
Before you start, make sure that you are aware of your voter registration status! Also, feel free to use this tool to email your representatives about anything, the topic does not have to be part of a pre-existing campaign. Just enter your address and it will allow you to contact your reps.
COVID CRISIS RESPONSE
→ Call your representatives to urge them to become original cosponsors of the Thrive Agenda. Numbers and script provided. Alternate contact here.
→ Contact your representatives to demand support for the Environmental Justice COVID-19 act, to investigate and address the disproportionate effects COVID-19 has had on Black communities - read this article from April for some early statistics as well as this response from Sierra Club.
→Call to demand justice for Jacob Blake, who was shot over seven times in the back by Kenosha Wisconsin police and is now currently paralyzed. Find the contact list here.
→ICE’s main line is (888-907-6635) if you would like to call them.
→Read about the Department of Housing and Urban Development’s proposal to deny transgender people access to single-sex taxpayer funded shelter facilities that correspond to their gender identity, and why the proposal is so dangerous. This proposal would negate the effects of the 2016 Equal Access Rule to protect the rights of gender non-conforming individuals seeking shelter. Then submit a public comment directly to HUD against this proposal, and email Congress to ensure Equal Access to Shelter.
→Select states: email your representative to block various local legislature proposals that will impact Trans rights. The website only allows you to respond to local issues, so take note.
→Click here or dial(844) 402-1001 to be connected to an automatic dialer to call the senate to advocate for the American Postal Workers Union. The APWU is currently demanding that $25 billion in stimulus funding be allocated to USPS. You can use this script if you would like.
→Read this, then call your representatives to demand that Postmaster General Louis DeJoy resign (be sure to set your location to automatically access your representative contacts as well as view provided script)
→Join Operation Swing State with HRC - they have phone banking sessions every Tuesday.
→Sign up to be a letter writer for Vote Forward to ensure that the maximum number of unengaged voters go to the polls.
