Weekly Staff Picks of The Best Bits

Here we are, week two of our new weekly roundups where we -- the good people of Standard & Strange -- get together and share what new styles we are excited about. We all have our own tastes, and this is just a little way we can share it. So without delay, take a look at the New Arrivals making us happy this week.

Freenote's RJ-3 Jacket - 17oz Black Denim

As someone who is usually rocking all black, I love to see a piece like this in the shop. It sits perfectly where it needs to, and the boxy fit allows it to be the perfect in between jacket for the season. The details make it a visually stunning jacket for any wardrobe, from the reinforcements across the front pockets and the custom metal buttons.

Indi + Ash's Johnny Coat - Handwoven Iron/Acacia Canvas Ticking Stripe

I really love the design direction Matt Aprile(the founder of Indi+Ash) is going in, and the Johnny Coat in Iron/Acacia Canvas Ticking Stripe is a chief example of that. It’s so much of what gets me going about clothing - taking old references(A 1940s military coat), and re-interpreting them for contemporary society. And the little details don’t stop - from the elegant raglan sleeve that comes down to the roomy adjustable cuffs, the hunting style back yolk, and the antique bone buttons. Needless to say, I got one for myself.

The Real McCoy's Tiger Camouflage Trousers & Parka

I know there's a historical aspect to these garments, but before I was aware of any of that, I was in high school playing countless hours of Halo 2 and Metal Gear Solid 3. Growing up in Queens, military wear was always essential to the New York streetwear aesthetic, and these games (for me) put a slightly nerdier cinematic twist. As separates or as a set, they just work. McCoy's always nails it and I know that if I ever find myself climbing a ladder for 3 minutes straight, I'll be wearing this set and listening toSnake Eater.

The Real McCoy's Trousers, Cotton, Khaki, 1941

The Real McCoy's take on the M-1941 trousers are really special. They have the silhouette I'm always looking for in pants these days — a high rise and wide straight leg. They pair well with a cropped jacket and my favorite boots. The fabric has a beautiful luster to it that I am sure will break in beautifully.

W'Menswear Track Sweater - Navy

A half-zip sweater that doesn't feel like business casual slop can be challenging to pull off, but the Track Sweater couldn’t be further from it. Maybe it's the handmade feel of the wool jersey made on hand-powered manual knitting machines. Or the slightly cropped body that I always gravitate towards in sweaters—it always looks more vintage, and frankly, I am just not that tall. The tunnel neck half is one of my favorite looks. The way the neck turns to a collar when it is unzipped just looks so cool every time.
