Product details
Indi + Ash create extremely thoughtful garments, employing a variety of traditional manufacturing techniques and reinvesting profit into the artisans responsible for their production, as well as the communities they live in. From hand-weaving to hand-knitting, traditional dyeing methods, and atelier-style production, they work to create truly unique and beautiful pieces that highlight the skill and history of the craftspeople who make them.
The Johnny Coat is a full-length greatcoat inspired by 1940s military outerwear, with the hem landing just below the knee and a stand collar. The torso features a removable belt, roomy adjustable cuffs at the end of the sleeves, and an attached-cape style hunting back yoke for ventilation and as an extra layer against the elements. It's a perfect layering piece, with a roomy body and wide raglan sleeves that fit easily over other knits and jackets. Though it secures up handsomely, it also sits open very nicely, with a relaxed silhouette and easy drape that doesn't encumber movement.
It's made from Indi + Ash's new handwoven ticking stripe fabric for Fall/Winter '24. Not too heavy, it's still suitably dense and robust, with virtually no stiffness at all due to the handwoven nature of the canvas body. The predominant yarns are hand-dyed black in an iron based natural dye, with acacia dyed and handspun ticking stripe yarns creating a pinstripe effect throughout. It also features a subtle slubby and inconsistent texture throughout, as a result of the varied yarn densities and lower tension handweaving process.
The whole thing closes up with antiqued bone buttons at the front flap of the stand collar, behind the covered plackets, and at the end of each sleeve. There are four welted hand pockets at the sides of the jacket, two below the belt and two just above. Inside, the body is unlined, allowing it to be worn during transitional seasons when things aren't quite hot or cold, making this a great outer shell and layering piece for a wide range of temperatures.
True to size with a relaxed fit. Wash cold and hang dry.
