Product details
11.11 is an exceptional label, with an ethos that strongly aligns with the S&S call to own fewer, better things — producing slow-fashion garments deliberately and sustainably across a network of local artisans and craftspeople throughout India. Everything they make is truly unique, with an undeniably natural and "human" element, from their patchwork and kantha embroidery, to the irregular nature of their low-tension handwoven textiles, to the tie-dye and natural indigo finishes, all of which will patina beautifully over time.
The fabric used for this jacket is all "recycled", as the piece itself is made from a Kantha-stitched patchwork of off cuts and fabric scraps from other 11.11 pieces. By repurposing these trimmings into a new fabric, 11.11 employ waste-free design that makes sure all of their materials are used for something. Any remaining fibers, yarns, cuttings, or fluff are gathered, pulped, and pressed into handmade paper that 11.11 use for hang tags (among other things).
Kantha is a hand-stitching technique from India, not functionally dissimilar to sashiko or boro mending, that can be used to both repair and embellish fabric, as well as for quilting things together. 11.11's Kantha design uses curved panels and stitching meant to evoke ripples across a surface of water.
The Worker Jacket is an old school workwear pattern, a sort of historical middle between chore coats and suit jackets, with a 3-button closure, narrow lapels, and a tailored fit through the body. It's got a partial buggy lining inside, with a completely clean-finish interior, as well as tonal & embroidered buttons closing up the placket. According to 11.11, it takes 12 artisans approximately 64 hours to make one of these jackets, which is a nice thing to think about and appreciate every time you put it on.
True to size with high armholes and a tailored fit through the body. May crock or bleed indigo onto other surfaces initially. Due to the patchwork nature of this item, no two will be exactly alike, and your jacket may not look like what we have photographed (though it will be quite similar). Dry clean, hand wash, or wash delicate with cold water and hang dry.
