MotivMFG is headed by Samuel Wei, founder of Radiance Blue and the pioneer of the heritage market in China; and Daniel Gu, a third-generation tailor and designer. Together, they combine old-world tailoring (from various antique European manuals) with workwear production techniques. Constant research into garment production techniques around the world informs their design, with the goal of recreating, as opposed to just reproducing.
The Work Sack Jacket was inspired by the highly functional and stylish worker's jackets of the 1920s. Usually made from hard-wearing materials and cut into anatomical, tailored fits, Motiv's latest version is no exception, utilizing dark herringbone tweed fabric made from cheviot wool.
Cut into a four-button stance, the lapels hide a fifth button, which can be done up to remove the labels and raise the collar. Three welted pockets with flaps can be found across the front of the jacket, with another three more on the inside, so you have plenty of space to carry things. The inside features a soft buggy lining, to keep you comfortable without overheating.
Inspired by workwear fabrics from 1920s France and produced by Lovat Mills in Scotland, the Sporting Tweed is a 100% wool performance herringbone fabric, with a unique subtle texture & an excellent hand. It's woven from twisted yarns, made by spinning a worsted (long staple) yarn around a woolen (short staple) one. It does everything a good wool should - it's comfortable and resistant to abrasion, with moisture-wicking properties, great insulation, and a handsome drape.
Fits true to size. Wash cold and hang dry, or dry clean.
