From Victorian era curiosities to early 20th century equestrian and motorcycle wear to rare WW2 era items - Black Sign garments are beautifully constructed, with a shared identity and aesthetic cohesion running through the collection to a degree we rarely see in brands focusing on reproductions & recreations.
Inspired by "Waist Overalls" (the workwear older brother of the modern 5-pocket jean) from the early 1900s and 1910s, the "Sashiko" Miner Waist-Overalls are a elevated take on a vintage staple. They've got all the right details: tucked belt loops, a buckle back, rounded slant pockets, a v-split back, copper rivet reinforcements, and removable suspenders. The fit is classic and comfortable, with a high rise and comfortable top block, full thighs, and wide straight legs that look great with almost any footwear you can find.
Rather than using a denim or duck canvas, Black Sign have instead selected a heavyweight indigo sashiko fabric, woven on jacquard looms for its complex texture. Stiff and thick, it's an incredibly dynamic fabric, promising to fade slowly and thoroughly over time as the rich indigo dye gradually wears away. To make sure it holds up long enough for that to happen, it's finished with heavy double-needle stitching, and a partial cotton twill lining through the top block.
Fits true to size. Wash cold with like colors, and hang dry.
