Product details
Taking design inspiration from classic Storm Rider jackets, the Thunderbird coat was born from the experiences of an eleven-day road trip that the Ginew founders took in their 1971 F250, traveling from their ancestral homelands in the Great Lakes to the forests of the Pacific Northwest. An extremely handsome type-3 variant, it's got a fantastic old-school fit and spectacular trims.
"Through the boreal forests along Lake Superior, across the plains and badlands of Dakota & Cheyenne lands, to the high desert and ultimately the temperate rainforest of the Pacific...each morning, day, and night an act of intention and, in many ways a prayer. Crisp sunrises, afternoon thunderstorms, still sunsets, and brilliantly starry nights were our muse as we bore witness to the change of seasons. Woven into each fabric of this coat is the intention, observation, and emotion of this experience."
They're sewn up from a 14oz, 100% cotton selvedge denim loomed by Vidalia Mills in Louisiana, USA. Over time, the indigo denim will relax and fade, developing a unique patina for each different wearer. The rear patch is made from deerskin, hunted and tanned by Ginew themselves, and features a custom leaf stamp.
The body is lined with Ginew's Facing East blanket - weighing in at 32oz, it's woven by Pendleton in Portland, OR, and features a custom design from Minneapolis-based visual artist Dyani White Hawk. Composed of 82% virgin wool and 18% cotton, it strikes an excellent ratio - the virgin wool provides softness and warmth, while the cotton gives the blanket additional structure and durability. Like the exterior, the lining will break-in over time, softening and taking the shape of the wearer's body.
It features two chest pockets and two welted handwarmer pockets, with custom Ginew hardware throughout, and secret embroidery beneath the collar. The sleeves are lined with a quilted statin, slick and soft for ease of layering. The fit leans more vintage, with a slightly cropped body and tapered torso, which can be further exaggerated with the side tab adjusters found on the back of the hem.
Fits true to size. Spot clean or dry clean only.
