Originally founded in 2006, Attractions began as a vintage reseller, importing pieces from the United States and the UK before starting their own production in 2011. Their experience in the vintage world provided them with the knowledge and inspiration necessary to develop their own styles, growing into an impressive and very special brand in a market saturated with alternatives.
With a deliberate focus on highly specific and often obscure styles from the last hundred years, Attractions produce some truly stellar and unique pieces, occupying a stylistic wheelhouse closely adjacent to "biker" but plainly distinct from other similar repro brands. Inspired by the progression of youth culture and style, Attractions infuse their own perspective into both the pieces they design, and the ways they design them.
A stunning contemporary Souvenir jacket, taking details from one of modern menswear's most iconic garments, whose history reaches from the Second World War through the Korean and Vietnam wars and into the modern age. The cut is somewhere between workwear and military, like a simplified mechanic jacket with a pointed collar, zip closure, and two hand pockets on the front - as opposed to a varsity or sukajan style souvenir jacket.
It's made from an all black rough-weave oxford cloth, with a fairly light weight and relaxed drape throughout. Woven from 100% cotton yarns (and despite the name "rough-weave"), it's immediately soft and comfortable, requiring no break in at all, and features a subtle, elevated quality to it that is best experienced in person. Inside, it's lined with a silky smooth 100% rayon satin fabric selected to emulate vintage sukajan jackets that layers easily and feels great on bare skin.
Obviously, we've got to talk about the embroidery, which was all done by hand using horizontal swing sewing machines by a team of extremely talented craftspeople. With extensive layering and detail throughout each individual section, the full details include two roaring tiger heads on the front of the jacket, a dragon on each sleeve, and a full tiger with Mount Fuji and "Japan" in text along the back.
The fit is easy, with a short (but not cropped) body and standard fit through the torso that can layer over light shirts and knits. The sleeves close up with hammered metal snaps, and the zipper is made by Universal - not much else to tell, it's just one spectacular jacket and it's pretty easy to see why.
