Since its founding 2001, designer Hiroki Nakamura's Visvim has built an extremely dedicated cult following. With a laser focus on crafting unique and high quality "future vintage" garments, Visvim has gained international acclaim over the past two decades for their unique perspective and exceptional design.

Not limited strictly to workwear or couture, they produce Folkwear, inspired by regional and historical manufacturing techniques from mud-dyeing to crocheting, with collections that build off of each previous year and develop holistically, season after season.

One of their most iconic styles, Visvim's Skagway Lo sneakers are a perfect example of their design ethos in action. The style they evoke is immediately apparent, but they distinguish themselves in subtle and extremely effective ways - it's the small stuff that makes the most difference. Firstly, the silhouette is just slightly exaggerated, with bigger eyelets, a taller outsole, a thicker tongue, and extra chunky laces. Then all the details are elevated as much as possible, custom woven uppers, leather trims, a custom Vibram outsole and tread, meticulous curved stitching throughout the uppers... everything.

As mentioned previously, the uppers are a solid 100% cotton canvas. The fabric is left undistressed, contrasted with all white stitching and stainless eyelets as well as the leather "cap" at the end of the tongue. The insoles are plush and comfortable from the moment you put these on, with custom stamped branding on the padded heels.

As far as fit goes, these don't pack any surprises. We've found the Skagway Lo to fit true to size with brannock and/or other sneaker brands, taking a lot of the guesswork out of trying to size these. They're finished with some tasteful branding - stamped on the outer "midsole" and sewn into the leather part of the tongue. They're also a Visvim logo on the bottom on the sole, so you can potentially leave branded footprints under the right conditions.
