The grain texture of Shinki Horsebutt is highly variable, and will differ immensely from boot to boot. We cannot ensure your boots will have more or less grain than what is photographed as all pairs will be entirely unique. Caveat emptor.

When John Lofgren sets out to build a pair of boots, he builds the most comfortable, highest quality boot he can. All of the work is done in Japan from start to finish, using only the highest quality leathers, Vibram soles, and John's own custom lasts.

Built on the same last as the John Lofgren Combat Boots, these are a sleeker, plain toe officer-style boot. Using the same swooping backstay as the Combat Boots, these (uniquely) feature a flat welt and all-eyelet closure, in addition to their plain toe. Overall, these cut a slightly lower, more subtle profile without sacrificing any of the sturdiness or heft of a Lofgren boot. 

These are sewn up in Timber brown horsebutt from the Shinki Tannery in Japan, one of the premier horsehide tanneries in the world. This remarkable leather features a glossy finish and a gorgeous grain texture that ranges from subtle to incredibly prominent. Unlike cowhide, horsebutt tends to roll rather than crease over time, giving them a more subtle and graceful aging process.

They stand on the Vibram 430 sole and heel combo, a low-profile sole with a plush and discreet lug pattern underneath. Offering great traction and comfort without adding visual bulk, they are a favorite for both city and country.
