Product details
11.11 is an exceptional label, with an ethos that strongly aligns with the S&S call to own fewer, better things — producing slow-fashion garments deliberately and sustainably across a network of local artisans and craftspeople throughout India. Everything they make is truly unique, with an undeniably natural and "human" element, from their patchwork and kantha embroidery, to the irregular nature of their low-tension handwoven textiles, to the tie-dye and natural indigo finishes, all of which will patina beautifully over time.
The Lecee Shirt is a color-blocked overshirt made from a 100% cotton fine weave with a relaxed fit. The tailoring is deceptively complex, with welted pockets and a multi panel front, extensive gathering across the back, and multi-piece sleeves that really highlight the advanced patterning and remarkable craftsmanship. Its got a relaxed fit, with a flat hem that accentuates the casual silhouette and overall drape of the garment.
The fabric is handwoven, even down to the yarns, which are handspun on a multi-spindle Gandhi charkha - a hand-operated spinning wheel used to turn bundled fibres into fine yarns without the use of electricity. These fine yarns are tightly woven together into a surprisingly airy canvas with natural neps and subtle irregularities up-close. "Hand weaving" in this context refers to using hand-operated looms and non-powered equipment, not literally weaving each yarn individually by hand.
The color-blocking and screen printed details are "all natural" - the dye is made from indigenous ingredients harvested around the Indian landscape, and the art is resist-dyed by overlaying twigs and leaves on the fabric before screenprinting. It has 11.11's usual trims, small embroidered details, like the top button and the little red flower under the left hip.
True to size with a relaxed fit. May crock or bleed indigo onto other surfaces initially. Cold wash and hang dry.
