Since its founding 2001, designer Hiroki Nakamura's Visvim has built an extremely dedicated cult following. With a laser focus on crafting unique and high quality "future vintage" garments, Visvim has gained international acclaim over the past two decades for their unique perspective and exceptional design.
Not limited strictly to workwear or couture, they produce Folkwear, inspired by regional and historical manufacturing techniques from mud-dyeing to crocheting, with collections that build off of each previous year and develop holistically, season after season.
Another of Visvim's most iconic and signature pieces, the Kanawa Moc boots are among the pinnacle of handsewn footwear. With their medium height, easy 4-eyelet lacing system, and fully hand-stitched uppers, the Kanawa Mocs make for an excellent casual shoe - with the bonus of being exceptionally comfortable, thanks to their custom plush Vibram soles, cork and leather insole, full leather midsole, and branded EVA Phylon heel stabilizer.
Made from a vegetable tanned Horween cowhide, a sturdy and reliable letter that starts out stiff and breaks in dramatically over time. Vegetable tanned leather are, as the name implies, tanned in a mixture of bark extracts and plant oils that contain specific tannins to convert cowskin into leather. Though initially quite rigid, veg tan leathers soften considerably over time, conforming to the shape of the wearer's foot until a glove-like fit is achieved. The light brown dye on this leather is also quite dynamic, and will darken and shift in tone over time as it takes in moisture, dirt, and oils while walking around.
The internal specs max the external, with the previously mentioned full cork and leather insole, leather midsole, and Pylon (it's like EVA foam that's been treated twice - as far as this product copy guy can figure, making it lighter weight while additionally flexible and durable) heel stabilizer all coming together to conform to and cradle your foot as comfortably as possible. Like any good pair of boots, these are built with a fully recraftable 270 degree goodyear welt, that can be maintained or rebuilt by any skilled cobbler.
The final details round everything out: solid brass eyelets, a custom Visvim leather tag on the tongue, rear pull tabs. They close up with tonal rawhide laces, which make perfect sense to us, and every pair comes with custom Visvim cloth dust bags.
