Kapital is undoubtedly one of the most unique brands we carry, as well as one of our absolute favorites. From their iconic Ring Coats and Century Denim, to the scarves and bandannas we love so much, to their patchwork and Kountry pieces — the brand has developed an international cult following, producing hit after hit like nobody else. Across the entirety of their massive catalog, Kapital is consistently exceptional, earning their reputation of style, brilliance, and just a hint of madness.
The first deep-pile fleece jacket appeared 35 years ago, six years after Malden Mills introduced the world to polar fleece, and quickly became canonical as an outdoor garment. The descent into low-cost (and low quality) ubiquity came about as a direct result of Malden's refusal to patent their new textile. By the end of the century, fleece jackets were fully déclassé, something to ridicule as a non-choice when worn and given away in bulk as corporate swag.
However, as the original pieces became coveted collectables, the design language and materials began to be adopted by designers like Kiro Hirata of Kapital. Warping and twisting the source code in the same way he hacked other classic garments, he takes the deep pile fleece jacket and pulls it in his alt-history of garments.
The fleece here has Kapital's hacksaw-block print design, with a classic boxy silhouette that's roomy through the torso but fitted at the waist thanks to the elasticated hem. The snap collar features a covered placket with custom woven cotton "tape" that goes from mid chest to the top of the stand collar.
