Blluemade's Autumn/Winter '24 collection takes inspiration from vintage prep styles, specifically those of the 1970s, with an updated color palatte for a more sophisticated and contemporary feel. Though referential to aesthetics and styles of the past, Blluemade's new collection is more modern in execution, having "roots in nostalgia" as they put it. The fabrics are exceptional, with plush Italian corduroy and cotton velvet that are perfectly suited to cooler weather and layering.
Stylistically somewhere between a blazer and a peacoat, Blluemade's Double Breasted Coat is an elegant unlined jacket with a relaxed fit and a clean silhouette. With an extremely handsome drape both buttoned and unbuttoned, it features two hand pockets for storage, and can but buttoned fully closed to resist wind or the elements.
It's made from a dusty brown Italian corduroy, woven from 100% cotton, with a wide wale and subtle shine across its surface. The "wale" of a corduroy fabric refers to the thickness of its vertical rows (called "wales"), where "wide-wale" generally refers to thicker and heavier fabrics, while "narrow-wale" usually indicates more narrow or micro-cords. As soft and warm as any other world-class corduroy, it's got a nice heft to it, with just enough drape and a handsome texture that will only get better with time, as the nap wears down in certain high-friction areas, and the texture slowly changes throughout.
Each piece is designed in Brooklyn and then cut-and-sewn together in NYC's Garment District, at a family-owned and women-run workshop that Blluemade have been working with for years.
