MotivMFG is headed by Samuel Wei, founder of Radiance Blue and the pioneer of the heritage market in China; and Daniel Gu, a third-generation tailor and designer. Together, they combine old-world tailoring (from various antique European manuals) with workwear production techniques. Constant research into garment production techniques from around the world inform their designs, with the goal of recreating, as opposed to just reproducing.
The Obscure Work Shirt has some serious and rather unique construction details. Featuring a covered placket, the front is pleated and reinforced with darts not dissimilarly to vintage Type 1 and 2 denim jackets, with a gusseted bucket pocket on the chest for utility. The sleeves and shoulders also employ a pleated design unlike any other shirts we've carried, creating a more relaxed and exaggerated silhouette while allowing for additional ease of movement through the arms.
It's made from a fine silk/linen blend broadcloth fabric with a really billowing, fluid drape and a soft hand. The smooth silk yarns combine with the more textured linen ones to create a slightly unevenly textured fabric with a very elegant character. It's pleasantly heavy, not extremely dense or stiff but comfortably substantial, with a very relaxed temper.
True to size with a relaxed fit. Machine wash cold on delicate cycle and hang dry.
