Product details
Produced in Japan by Warehouse & Co, John Gluckow garments are designed in collaboration with John Gluckow himself, a long time industry veteran and respected vintage collector. Each piece is functionally familiar but stylistically unique - not interested in simply replaying the hits, John finds weird, funky, and obscure styles that nobody else is making and rebuilds them to the highest quality.
The 1930s Dockworker's Shirt is a great summer workshirt, featuring a vintage fit through the chest, two open pockets, and reinforcements everywhere. With some more familiar details, like an angled front yoke and short sleeves, as well as more obscure ones, like the reinforced rear shoulders. Kind of a perfect shirt for carrying a backpack, too.
The original design was likely produced with dockworkers and porters in mind, as the reinforcements would be ideal for someone who has to carry or move heavy objects with some frequency. It's got white shell buttons down the placket, dressing it up a bit, and sits long enough to be worn tucked in (but not so long as to look bad if worn untucked).
It's made from a Japanese sulfur-dyed selvedge chambray, woven from 100% cotton yarns, the fabric is crispy and structured at first, relaxing over time as it breaks in from wear and washing. The brown sulfur dye will gradually fade as well, growing lighter with repeat wear and developing a unique patina depending on how its worn. Clocking in at a comfortable medium weight, the chambray is substantial feeling but still breathable, and layers easily.
Fits true to size. Wash cold and hang dry.
