Following the various American Wars of the 20th century, military surplus and combat fabrics make their way into civilian markets, becoming recontextualized through peacetime. The Mitchell Boonie hat is a reproduction of a "civilian" item, never being issued by any branch of the United States military and only appearing in private markets, being produced by tailors and individuals with access to surplus camo fabrics. Mitchell camo was only ever officially used for helmet covers and shelter halves during the Vietnam War (when it was developed and produced), however it remains today as one of the most popular and sought after camouflage patterns amongst collectors.
The Camo Boonie Hat is a summer staple, finished with a wide brim, foliage band around the crown, vent eyelets, and an adjustable headband for extra security. It's your best friend when the sun is out, and will keep your head cool, comfortable, and out of the harsh summer sun when you're out on the river, or lake, or beach.
Made from a 100% cotton double-sided "Mitchell camo" - consisting of green wine leaf exterior and cloudy brown Mitchell pattern inside the crown. The combination of these two designs is colloquially known as Mitchell camo now, but was originally referred to as Pattern-53, since technically only the brown side is Mitchell camo, having been designed by Mr Meldon Mitchell, an artist and former marine. The cotton fabric starts a little stiff, softening considerably after washing and only breaking in more over time.
Fits true to size. Wash cold and hang dry.
