Product details
Beyond their selection of exceptional leather jackets, Y'2 also produce their own line of footwear, utilizing the same incredible leathers and skilled craftspeople as their jackets. Wanting to properly represent their unique lineup, we ordered these gorgeous persimmon-dyed horsehide work boots. The leather itself is difficult to produce and sensitive to work with, as this isn't just any natural (undyed) veg-tan leather.
Kakishibu is a traditional Japanese dying technique that uses aged persimmon tannins, with "Kakishibu" literally meaning "persimmon astringency". Kakishibu has also been called “Taiyo-zome (sun-dye)” due to the photosensitivity of the dye - areas exposed to light will grow darker and richer in tone, eventually reaching a true persimmon color. As a result of this increased photosensitivity, this Kakishibu horsehide will age faster than most natural veg-tan leathers.
The leather is drum-tanned, a traditional tanning process that involves rolling the hides around in large wooden "drums" - during Kakishibu tanning, the drums need to be washed and maintained more regularly than with other tanning methods, as the fully organic tannins decay more easily than other tanning mediums.
Outside of that, these are a classic and handsome heritage style boot, with a rounded and unstructured toe, 270 degree storm welt, and polished brass hardware. They stand on our favorite, the Vibram 705 half sole & heel combo - a world class pairing in terms of traction, durability, and sleekness.
Over time, these will develop a completely unique and wholly remarkable patina. Once the soles wear down, these can be rebuilt by any trusted cobbler, giving you years and years to enjoy them.
Choose 0.5 size smaller than you Brannock size for the best fit. Expanded sizing information available in the sizing tab.

Size Guide
These are a very classic and standard heritage boot fit. The last shape is reminiscent of the Viberg 2030, with its slightly pointed, almond-shaped toe and unstructured vamp. These fit slightly smaller than the Viberg 2030 last however, and we have had the most success taking 0.5 size smaller than our Brannock measurement, similar to most styles from Red Wing Heritage, or the Alden Barrie last.
