Since its founding 2001, designer Hiroki Nakamura's Visvim has built an extremely dedicated cult following. With a laser focus on crafting unique and high quality "future vintage" garments, Visvim has gained international acclaim over the past two decades for their unique perspective and exceptional design.

Not limited strictly to workwear or couture, they produce Folkwear, inspired by regional and historical manufacturing techniques from mud-dyeing to crocheting, with collections that build off of each previous year and develop holistically, season after season.

One of their most iconic styles, Visvim's Virgil Boots are a perfect example of their ethos in action. Handsome and powerful even before you put them on, their character is immediately apparent, and will continue to grow and develop with wear. They're exceptionally comfortable, with soft leather uppers, a plush Vibram sole, and the signature TPU heel stabilizer.

Made from a Swedish vegetable tanned cowhide roughout, these combine the thickness and durability of cowhide with the texture and softness of suede. With a handsomely textured surface, these break in quickly with wear, softening throughout and taking the shape of the wearer's foot over time. Exposure to friction from movement will eventually wear down the napped texture of the uppers, revealing a smooth black surface beneath and developing into a gorgeous and entirely unique patina.

They're just as impressive internally as they are aesthetically, with an undyed natural leather lining, full cork and leather insole, and plush EVA midsole. These break-in quickly, with all the internal details forming to the shape of your foot as you wear them. Like any good pair of boots, these are built with a fully recraftable 270 degree goodyear welt, that can be maintained or rebuilt by any skilled cobbler.

The trims are unsurprisingly also stellar, from the multiple rows of extremely precise, high-SPI (that's stitches-per-inch) sewing across the uppers, to the nickel eyelets and speedhooks (5 and 3, respectively), to the waxed cotton laces and woven Visvim labels sewn into the tongue - nothing has been forgotten or neglected.

Our sizing recommendations

Contrary to most other heritage-style boots, the Virgil Boots, with their almond-shaped toes and rounded heel, fit true to Brannock size. Those with wide or particularly high volume feet may want to size up 0.5 size from their Brannock measurement for the ideal fit.

  • C-Width narrow and low volume feet:
    • True to Brannock (same size as your Brannock measurement) for the best fit
  • D-Width and average volume feet:
    • True to Brannock (same size as your Brannock measurement) for the best fit
  • E width wide and high volume feet:
    • 0.5 size larger than Brannock for the best fit
