MotivMFG is headed by Samuel Wei, founder of Radiance Blue and the pioneer of the heritage market in China; and Daniel Gu, a third-generation tailor and designer. Together, they combine old-world tailoring (from various antique European manuals) with workwear production techniques. Constant research into garment production techniques from around the world inform their designs, with the goal of recreating, as opposed to just reproducing.
The Vector Bomber is a contemporary flight jacket with some very thoughtful details and a weather-ready construction. Take the shoulders, for example, which feature external patches for durability that help keep rainwater out of the seams underneath them, or the front pockets - trimmed in wool for abrasion resistance and a little extra warmth. The hem, collar, and cuffs are all trimmed in a 100% wool knit for maximum comfort and thermal regulation as well.
The fabric is a completely custom waxed cotton, developed exclusively for MotivMFG by Halley Stevenson in the UK, it's medium-weight, with a smooth texture and excellent water resistance. Redesigned for the 2024 season, the latest run of the waxed cotton material features a high contrast coating, selected specifically for the dramatic patina it develops quickly with wear. It's finished with an initial wash to give the fabric an already-worn texture throughout, and will only continue to fade and crease over time, replicating vintage garments.
It's got a pretty classic fit, with a relaxed and slightly cropped torso, full sleeves, and a comfortable stand collar. In addition to the two external pockets, there are two more on the inside, with custom snap closures. The front placket closes up with a double zipper, and then buttons over that with all custom hardware. The inside features a lightweight cotton ripstop lining as well, maintaining a healthy degree of separation between your skin and any sort of waxed canvas fabric.
Fits true to size. Wash cold on delicate and hang dry, or dry clean.
