Samuel Zelig is a brand to watch out for, featuring inspired riffs on workwear and sportswear classics that drip with personality - from every fabric to each individual embellishment. Either thanks to or in spite of their maximalist design, SZ pieces play well with others, blending extremely well with both the vintage styles that inspired them and more the more contemporary pieces they evoke.
Primarily focused on knitwear, SZ produce "Uniform" style basics with extensive customization and personality, with each patch or embroidery designed in-house for each specific garment. Thanks to their unique design and shocking versatility, Samuel Zelig pieces have become a staple around our shops, easily worn as statement pieces or intermediate layers without ever feeling out of place.
The Varsity Crewneck takes inspiration from vintage high school and college letterman jackets and athletic sweatshirts from between the 30s and 50s. Featuring custom embroidery, patches, and two-tone colorblocking, it's a handsome blend of old school details and unique embellishments. The #44 on the chest is an excellently textured blend of chainstitch and chenille, and the Vulture mascot is an original design by the Zelig team.
It's made from a 15oz, 100% cotton french terry cloth from Japan that's been given a vintage wash to prematurely patina the fabric and manage all shrinkage.
The construction is solid, from the set-in sleeves to the double-needle coverstitched seams - it's built to last a long time. The inside of the knit is unbrushed, giving it a more dry and airy hand that is more suitable for year-round wear. The stripe details on the sleeve are inspired by vintage football tees, but updated from a simple printed stripe to a 3D "patch" made from a 10oz jersey fabric.
These run slightly large - if you're between sizes, we suggest taking the smaller of the two. Wash cold and dry flat.
