Description
The BORO FOR PEACE project was created in collaboration with "Concur", a social enterprise based in Thailand's southernmost province. The BORO FOR PEACE Work Jeans are produced start-to-finish by a cottage industry of ethnic Malay women in Yala, Thailand, empowering them through fair wages and the preservation of their artisanal craft. A third of all profits are invested back into these communities, emphasizing the social and economic aspects of sustainability.
Each pair is completely unique, a wearable work of art, produced entirely by hand with custom distressing and repairs using up-cycled vintage bandannas to create patchwork and boro mending details throughout. We've included a picture of 9 different pairs laid next to one another to show how vastly different each is from its counterparts.
These are a unisex style, cut with a comfortable high rise, roomy top block, and full thighs with a gentle taper down to a reasonably wide leg opening. The pleated front allows for a more dramatic waistline, which can be further brought in with side tab adjusters above the back pockets. Speaking of pockets, you've got your standard two in the front and two on the back, with and extra two on the front of each thigh.
Completed with a clean interior construction and fully finished seams, these are built to last, utilizing double stitched felled seams throughout. They're made from a 100% cotton indigo denim and completely overlaid with vintage bandannas, covering the entire exterior and then reinforced with topstitching. It's quite stiff at first, requiring a bit of wear before the thick material starts to break-in and soften, but over time it will relax considerably, taking the shape of the wearer's body.
