Wonder Looper was founded by industry veterans Risa Saito and Bazad Trinos of Naked & Famous denim (among other projects). With a focus on knitwear, they produce some of the best contemporary cotton knits on the market, manufacturing all of their products entirely in Japan from start to finish. Their pieces are a stellar blend of interesting, unique fabrics and high quality vintage construction details, with excellent fits that lean more true-to-size for Western audiences as well.
The Pima Tsurami Tees are made from organic US-grown supima cotton called "Ultimate Pima" a long-staple cotton in the top 1% of US production. The extra long staple of the cotton fibres weave into more durable yarns that start soft but break in even further over time, softening further with wear and washing.
Weighing in at a comfortable 200gsm / 5.9oz, they're lightweight but with a pleasant thickness. It's made on vintage Japanese Tsuriami (loopwheel) machines - these machines produce fabric very slowly, humming along at just 1 meter per hour and producing about one half roll of fabric in a day. By comparison, a modern knitting machine can blast out about five full rolls in the same amount of time, operating at roughly 10 times the speed of a loopwheeler.
The fabrics created are anything but equal. The "slow and steady" nature of loopwheel machines comes from the gravity-fed nature of the knit - with minimal tension applied, the finished product is light, airy, and remarkably soft from the moment its knit. They're finished with a more contemporary and athletic fit, cut with side seams for a more anatomical shape, sewn up flat on Union Special machines.
Fits true to size. Wash cold on delicate and lay flat to dry.
