Product details
The TYPE N-3A was the cold war successor to the B-9 and B-11 parkas that came before it. The N-3 parkas was the first use of nylon cloth for a US Military garment, holding a special place in the history of uniform development.
With the Air Force a newly independent branch of the US Military (it was part of the US Army prior to 1951) they looked to chart their own course, including sartorially. Now that they had full control over their uniform development, Olive Drab was out and US Air Force blue was in. The N-3A would be part of this new Air Force look, for two years at least, and then they went back to green. During its brief service life Air Force Blue and the N-3A was immortalized by Jimmy Stewart in the film Strategic Air Command.
The Real McCoy's N-3A is made from a 66 nylon, a special nylon yarn developed by DuPont and recreated by The Real McCoy's. 66 nylon is more flame resistant and durable compared to other nylon fibres, ideal for flightwear. The lining is a cotton wool blend pile and the hood is lined with beaver lamb mouton fur with coyote trim. There is a #7 wire zip in aluminium finish for the front closure and 50s oval zippers sealing the nylon cuff sleeves.
Fits true to size. Dry clean or spot clean only.
