Born from a mix of vintage sensibilities, practical need, & the sort of madness it takes to want to produce anything the right way - Papa Nui makes some of the best hats and caps on the market. Manufactured in Japan, with the highest attention to detail and quality, each and every piece is designed deliberately, with a unique personality and story.
The Armstrong cap is the latest exclusive collaboration between Papa Nui & Tony Sylvester (of AWMS). Produced in limited quantities, it takes its name and design from the lucky red USMC PX cap that Neil Armstrong, the first person to set foot on the moon, often wore. Prior to his time at NASA, Armstrong served as a US Navy officer during the Korean War, flying in over 78 combat missions, and later went on to work as a test pilot at Edwards AFB, where he set several base records while in the air.
The Armstrong Cap isn't too flashy, with a more subdued and vintage four panel design, the brim features only a single row of stitching, and the back is plain and closed. It's got an old school military silhouette, with a medium crown and slightly short brim that curves further around the front of the head than more contemporary caps, cutting a clean profile from any angle.
It's made from a handsome red 100% cotton twill, with a smooth face texture and gentle luster. Soft, comfortable, and breathable from the moment you put it on, it's the kind of hat you can wear almost all year long. It only gets better with time, fading from sunlight and gradually altering in texture from wear, developing a totally unique patina for each wearer.
Papa Nui's usual stellar construction, including taped internal seams and a reinforced hat band, will keep it holding up for years and years. Custom labels and an embroidered Hino Maru patch can be found inside, the marks of a genuine Papa Nui Hat.
Available in Medium (57-58cm) & Large (59-60cm). Wash cold, towel dry for no shrinkage. Wash hot, dry hot for shrinkage. Maximum stretch/shrinkage is approximately 1-1.5cm.
