Y'2's "140" 1st Type Jackets are a favorite of ours, with a design based on WWII era Type-I jackets - but stripped of the traditional embellishments like a buckle back or back pleats. This allows the leather to do the talking, showing off the impressive horsehide and Y'2's masterful cutting, and ensures more consistent patina across the entire jacket.
For their 25th Anniversary, Y'2 have released a mossy green suede edition of the popular 140 1st Type Jacket, and it's absolutely stunning. The lining has been upgraded as well, swapping the standard "no-lining" (Y'2's suede type-1 jackets usually come unlined) for a silky smooth cupra throughout the interior.
Despite its heft, the olive steer suede is remarkably soft and plush, requiring virtually no break-in to fit comfortably. The "nap" (essentially the fuzziness or hairiness of the suede) is very deep, giving an extremely luxurious and dense texture to the leather. The combination of deep green dye and the subtle luster of the leather's surface give the impression that you're wearing a jacket made from living moss.
The whole thing closes up with five brass Wreath & Star donut buttons, same buttons as on the cuffs - these buttons can be a bit tough at first, but break in quickly with use. The body and sleeves are lined with an off white cupra that layers easily and feels good on bare skin. Inside, there are two chest pockets that can be used as more secure storage than the single external pocket, a nice touch and a welcome update on the WWII-era style.
