Fauves is produced in Japan, under the same designer as Olde Homesteader and Olde H & Daughter, two of our most elevated small brands. The label takes its name from "Fauvism", a short-lived artistic style/movement from the early 20th century, lead by Henri Matisse and Andre Derain - Fauvism was characterized by its use of bold colors and exaggerated brushstrokes, adjacent to the impressionist style.
Fauves' design takes inspiration from classic American workwear styles, looking specifically at mass-produced garments developed after industrialization. Each silhouette is meticulously enhanced, with exacting construction, custom textiles, and highly detailed tailoring, a stark contrast to the more simplified & utilitarian originals.
The Peg Top Pant is a double pleated flat-front trouser with a high rise and tapered legs. Somewhere between a work pant and a more formal trouser, they wear well as either, with a roomy, comfortable top block and an exaggerated natural silhouette. In addition to the pleated front, they've got four pockets, two slash pockets at the hips and two bucket pockets on the seat, with a zip fly and double waist buttons.
They're made from a 100% cotton gabardine fabric - tightly woven, the face has a subtle sheen to it thanks to the combination of rinsed black yarns. Soft and comfortable, gabardine is usually reserved for more formal garments, allowing you to dress these trousers up should you so desire. Immediately wearable, they've got an easy drape that will only get better with time as the fabric relaxes even further.
