The P-44 Utility Coat was issued during the final years of the second World War, superseding the iconic P-1941 jacket, it was a highly versatile piece of outwear that saw widespread use in and out of combat. Far more complex than the P-41 coat before it, featuring a flap chest pocket, two additional side entry chest pockets (originally intended to be used for flotation devices but ultimately used as additional pocket space for just about anything), the front features a gas flap behind the placket, with additional buttons behind the collar that would be used to attach a hood.
Sewn up from The Real McCoy's 100% cotton olive HBT fabric (herringbone twill), an ultra-high quality reproduction of one of the most ubiquitous military cloths of the last century. Comfortably medium weight, it's crisp but surprisingly breathable thanks to the herringbone weave, breaking in and softening substantially over time. Olive drab herringbone fabric was the US armed forces replacement to standard issue denim and khaki garments, faring better across a greater variety of combat theaters and eventually becoming the most commonly worn fabric during the second half of WWII.
The hardware is on par with the custom fabric and meticulously reproduced tailoring, utilizing McCoy's custom reproduced "Economy Rivet Buttons" - this rare civilian hardware might be found on end of batch jackets produced by civilian contractors when supplies of USMC buttons were low.
