Product details
Our inventory of the 10 Year Anniversary jeans is separated between online pairs and in-store pairs. We are not accepting any phone, email, or remote orders for in-store inventory jeans.
We have been working with Ryo and Hiro Ooe of Ooe Yofukuten since 2014, and are their sole stockist outside of Japan. They make everything in a small Japanese town just outside of Nagoya using a collection of rare vintage sewing machines. Ryo is the pattern maker and cutter and Hiro does the sewing - their dedication, focus and level of detail is superlative.
Their workshop is in a textile factory building from the 1890’s, filled with restored vintage and antique sewing machines. These exceedingly rare and unique machines are lovingly maintained by their close friend, Mr. Matsuoka, who is nationally recognized by Japan for his sewing machine repair skills.
The production is very limited by nature, and they have developed an international cult following over the years. When you hold a pair of Ooe Yofukuten jeans, it may take a moment to notice the subtle details. The fabric is just like a pair of vintage Levi’s, the needlework is flawless, and the buttonholes are absolute perfection - each a mark of the craft of Ryo and Hiro.
In celebration of Standard & Strange's 10 Year Anniversary, we had Ooe cook us up this extra special batch of limited edition Saddle Pants! Made from precious deadstock White Oak Cone Mills selvedge, they're built on the OA01 fit block, with pocket details inspired by our original run of Saddle Pants from 2017.
The OA01 is one of our favorite denim fits of all time. A mid-century fit, with a medium high rise, relaxed top block, full thighs, and comfortable straight legs (that taper almost imperceptibly to a roomy leg opening), it's handsome on virtually anyone. They're sewn up in a classic five pocket configuration with a western twist, utilizing scooped front pockets with rivet reinforcements (inspired by vintage Roebucks Riders jeans) and matching acorn-shaped rear pockets with x-shaped bar tacks.
Sewn up from unsanforized XX27 denim, the fabric for these jeans is deadstock White Oak Cone Mills selvedge. This particular batch was made in 2017, and was part of the last run before the iconic fabric mill closed its doors. Made from 100% cotton yarns, these were woven on original Draper's shuttle looms and then stitched up with extra strong 100% cotton threads. Dyed a classic indigo, these will fade over time like any good denim, developing a unique patina in line with the wearer.
These are a "raw" unsanforized denim. They will shrink about 10% overall during the first 1-3 washes (depending on the temperature of the water, and how the jeans are dried). This shrinkage amounts to about ~2" in the waist and about ~3" in the inseam. Wash cold for less shrinkage, or warm for more shrinkage, and hang dry.
We suggest choosing two sizes larger than your measured waist for the best fit after a hot wash. If you don't intend to initially hot wash the fabric, you my want to only go up one size for the best fit.
