W'Menswear was founded by Lauren Yates in 2015, born out of a desire to produce high quality, heritage-inspired garments for women - with a nuanced and ever-evolving perspective on femininity at the intersections of fashion, workwear, military garments, and history. Originally operating out of a converting shipping container in Bangkok, the brand has grown substantially with each new collection, employing specialty and custom fabrics as well as partnering with local workshops & artisans.
Introducing the new Spring/Summer '24 Collection: Pawai Paratroopers - a celebration of Thailand's first group of female paratroopers, whose motto was "to prove that women can do anything as well as a man, no matter what affair. Whatever the task, be it on land, in water, or in the air." (Paratrooper Ampai Sombat, Freedom Magazine 1961). Through their action, these women became cultural figureheads of radical change during the 1960s, inspiring new attitudes towards women and social progress throughout Thailand.
The Nam Coat is the showstopper outwear piece of the SS24 collection, with an extended body, relaxed fit, and reversible design. Cut with three external pockets and two more on the inside, the jacket can be inverted to reverse this layout, with important details like the reinforced elbows mirrored on either side of the design. Though the fabric is identical on the inside and the outside, it's still effectively two jackets in one with subtly different pocket orientations on each side, and the collar features a hidden chinstrap that can be fastened closed for additional wind or sun protection.
It's made from a lightweight 55% linen 45% nylon plaid fabric that was produced in Japan. Utilizing an attractive blend of olive, orange, cream, and gray, it's carefully pattern-matched throughout with the exception of the elbow pads and pocket entrances, for a subtle yet effective visual variety. Lightweight and breezy, it's an excellent summer fabric, with a gentle drape that moves with your body.
Fits true to size with a relaxed body. Wash cold and hang dry.
