Description
MotivMFG is headed by Samuel Wei, founder of Radiance Blue and the pioneer of the heritage market in China; and Daniel Gu, a third-generation tailor and designer. Together, they combine old-world tailoring (from various antique European manuals) with workwear production techniques. Constant research into garment production techniques around the world informs their design, with the goal of creating “recreations” rather than “reproductions”
Taking inspiration from mid-century competitive cycling jerseys, the Micro Waffle Thermal Knits feature a trim (but not tight) body, with high armholes that conform to the wearer's shape immediately. The fit is secured with a tightly knit ribbed collar and cuffs, and a flat hem that will drape naturally and tucks in well. The athletic fit through the body works well in multiple different sizes - go TTS for a classic fit, or size up for something slightly more relaxed and slouchy.
These are knit up in a medium-lightweight micro waffle knit, with a sturdy drape and slightly stiff feel throughout. The waffle pattern has just the right amount of rigidity to feel especially substantial, while also doing a great job holding in heat. The yarns are a blend of wool, linen, and cotton, featuring the strengths of all three materials and none of the weaknesses - with an exceptionally soft and warm hand, they are durable, smooth, and not scratchy like some other wool knits.
