Description
Manufactured one pair at a time by a single operator (Rix Cannell), Hendrix Park is produced start-to-finish in Sausalito, California. We're working with Rix to make small and exclusive batches of his fantastic fatigue pants in different deadstock fabrics from the S&S/Jeremy Smith collection (Jeremy is the owner of Standard & Strange), with this being our inaugural run.
This batch uses a 100% cotton indigo-dyed deadstock herringbone twill from Japan. Jeremy claims to have found the fabric "at the back of the back of the factory, basically underneath it" during a visit to a textile mill in Japan, and quantities were so limited that only five pairs of pants were made for this release. We'd describe the fabric as being a comfortable medium weight, clocking in at about 12oz, with a pleasant structure that will soften considerably over time, developing a much more relaxed drape as it breaks in.
They're absolutely saturated with indigo, and handling these for even just a few minutes will turn the palms of your hands blue. It's very likely that they'll also color parts of your leg blue during the first few full days of wear (this natural indigo dye will wash off easily, and is harmless). They crock heavily and will leave pigment on light furniture and hard surfaces (like walls) if brushed or rubbed against. The dye will also bleed heavily for the first few washes/rinses, so only clean with like colors. Over time and with subsequent washes, the dye-loss/crocking will eventually become negligible and stop.
Because of the heavy indigo content, these will fade pretty dramatically with time, developing a unique and beautiful patina depending on the wear and the wearer. This is a sanforized fabric, meaning it’s been treated to minimize shrinkage, but is otherwise raw and unwashed. They will come in a bit during the first few rinses/washes, stretching back out as you wear them around.
The Hendrix Park Fatigue pant is a classic trouser inspired by vintage US military fatigues, with a comfortable medium-high rise, a relaxed top block, and fairly wide-straight legs. They're cut with a button fly that closes up with four Japanese nickel buttons, and have four roomy patch pockets, a respectable 7 belt loops, and heavy-duty flat-felled seams for durability. Every pair is made by one person on a collection of 9 different sewing machines—some dating back to the 1940s—using made-in-the-USA Coats thread.
Fits true to size. Wash cold and hang dry.
Caution! Indigo fabric bleeds heavily.
