MotivMFG is headed by Samuel Wei, founder of Radiance Blue and the pioneer of the heritage market in China; and Daniel Gu, a third-generation tailor and designer. Together, they combine old-world tailoring (from various antique European manuals) with workwear production techniques. Constant research into garment production techniques around the world informs their design, with the goal of creating “recreations” rather than “reproductions”
The Glacier Hooded Sweatshirt is a futuristic reimagining of 1950s era "wind smocks". Featuring a one-piece front, where the kangaroo pocket is formed by folding the front over on itself and then reinforced with triangular embroidery, as well as a shocking deep welted chest pocket with a flap cover.
It's made from an outerwear-grade jersey fabric, using a blend of 55% cotton and 45% wool yarns, where the surface is primarily cotton and the reverse side is primarily a brushed wool pile. After looming, the fabric is shrunk to tighten up the knit and imbue the fabric with a subtly irregular texture throughout. Remarkably soft despite its sturdy weight, it wears well over everything from tees to flannels to sweatshirts.
To keep things light and minimal, the edges are finished with a simple blanket stitch, visible along the rounded back hem and pocket edges, as well as the hood. Speaking of the hood, it features a quarter zip closure that allows it to be worn as a wide collar, regular hood, or zipped all the way up for maximum coverage.
Fits true to size with a relaxed fit. Dry clean only.
