Blluemade's Autumn/Winter '24 collection takes inspiration from vintage prep styles, specifically those of the 1970s, with an updated color palatte for a more sophisticated and contemporary feel. Though referential to aesthetics and styles of the past, Blluemade's new collection is more modern in execution, having "roots in nostalgia" as they put it. The fabrics are exceptional, with plush Italian corduroy and cotton velvet that are perfectly suited to cooler weather and layering.
The Engineer Shirt is somewhere between a light jacket and a thick overshirt. Designed to be worn as both, or either, it features a roomy body that breathes well and fits easily over other smaller shirts, or knitwear. A great blend of comfort and utility, the real star is the fabric, both in terms of looks and quality.
It's made from a green-gold Italian corduroy, woven from 100% cotton, with a narrow wale and gentle luster throughout. The "wale" of a corduroy fabric refers to the thickness of its vertical rows (called "wales"), where "wide-wale" generally refers to thicker and heavier fabrics, while "narrow-wale" usually indicates more narrow or micro-cords. As soft and warm as any other world-class corduroy, with a comfortable hand, soft drape, and a handsome texture that will only get better with time as the nap wears down in certain high-friction areas.
Each piece is designed in Brooklyn and then cut-and-sewn together in NYC's Garment District, at a family-owned and women-run workshop that Blluemade have been working with for years.
