Wonder Looper was founded by industry veterans Risa Saito and Bazad Trinos of Naked & Famous denim (among other projects). With a focus on knitwear, they produce some of the best cotton knits on the market, manufacturing all of their products entirely in Japan from start to finish. Their pieces are a stellar blend of interesting, unique fabrics and high quality vintage construction details, with excellent fits that lean more true-to-size for Western audiences as well.
The Double Heavyweight French Terry Zip Hoodie is arguably the final and most "elevated" basic hoodie that can be produced. Visually simple, just about every detail has been considered: the shoulders are raglan, to ensure a perfect fit on the widest range of different builds, the hood features a double layer construction that gives it extra heft and makes it extra comfortable to wear, and the sides feature a band of vertical ribbing for ease of movement. Rather than throwing any old zipper on the front, Wonder Looper have splurged, selecting a heavyweight two-way Waldes zipper for additional style and durability.
The fabric is really special - produced in Wakayama, Japan on tubular knitting machines that are a little different than (slightly more modern and mechanically distinct to) a loopwheeler. It's one of, if not the heaviest, knits we've ever stocked: clocking in at an impressive 701gsm, or about 21oz. This is roughly twice as heavy as the average "heavyweight" knit, and you can immediately tell when handling one of these. The fabric is substantial, thick and surprisingly weighty for a hoodie (a size medium weighs just under 3lbs), but exceptionally comfortable and immediately pleasant to wear, requiring no break-in.
Knit with 100% cotton yarns, the fabric is a low gauge French terry with a slightly irregular face texture and soft, dry hand. The loops on the inside are relatively large, soft and dense throughout, it feels great and bare skin and layers comfortably with other garments. It's finished with a drawstring for the front of the hood, split hand pockets on the front, and more ribbing at the cuffs and hem - literally everything you could want in a hoodie.
Fits true to size with a classic fit. Wash cold on delicate and lay flat to dry.
