The Dillinger is the quintessential 1930s leather jacket, with its relaxed body, dropped shoulders, and shawl (or cossack) collar. Cut from extremely supple deerskin, this is a leather jacket with the drape and break-in of a much lighter jacket, a direct consequence of the extremely plush and soft leather used in the construction, and the lack of any lining.
Deerskin is an increasingly difficult material to source in the modern world. Habitat loss, paired with changing ecological conditions have impacted the amount of deer with hides of suitable quality for tanning, as fewer deer are growing large enough to make good leather out of.
The body is made entirely out of light brown vegetable tanned Japanese deerskin. These are wild game animals, not raised in captivity, and harvested very consciously to preserve herd health - so the hides bare some minor imperfections and blemishes as a result of life in the wild. These are purely aesthetic, and have no impact on the longevity or functionality of the jacket. As such, no two of these jackets are exactly alike.
The gently draping fit can be further adjusted with two brass buckles on each side of the back. For storage, two small patch pockets sit on the front of the jacket, sealing shut with carved corozo nut buttons - the very same buttons that close up the cuffs and front of the jacket. Aside from that, it's wonderfully minimal, with the expert hide selection and cutting on full display across the large, even panels of the jacket.
These fit true to size, with a roomy chest that's great to layer under, dropped shoulders, and a relatively short front length (though nothing too severe). The deerskin leather is very soft to begin with, requiring little-to-no break in, but will still stretch and relax very slightly over time. Over time, the vegetable tanned deerskin will darken with exposure to sunlight, moisture, and whatever you do while wearing it.
