Product details
Based out of Japan's Iwate Prefecture, one of the northernmost provinces, Gorsch was born into a quiet rural life, taking inspiration from antique German tailoring and early proto-workwear. The garments are beautifully constructed, frequently making use of deadstock vintage textiles, with tailored silhouettes and unisex styling.
Gorsch's Spring/Summer 2024 Collection is their 12th seasonal release, and takes inspiration from the wardrobe and personal style of a local grape farmer, Mr. Sasaki, and his wife, Kanako. They run a small farm in Iwate's Shiwa District, growing grapes for white, red, and orange natural wines using what Gorsch refer to as "natural farming principles" - having purchased and restored an abandoned vineyard to produce naturally fermented wines.
With names like Bauer & Bauerin, both meaning "farmer" in German, the styles are understated - "simple" in appearance yet deceptively complex in execution. The rustic undertones in each piece's design help to balance the more formal silhouettes, creating elevated casual garments that fit easily into a summer wardrobe, whether you're on the farm laboring, or sharing a bottle of something with friends: you'll look your absolute best.
Striking a perfect balance between formal and workwear styling, the Cover Jacket can do both, with a simple and relaxed fit that is emphasized by the 7-button placket and exaggerated sleeve silhouette. It's a minimalist alternative to a classic chore coat, cut with two welted hand pockets and a flat hem, using plain cuffs to further accentuate the relaxed sleeves.
Inside, the body is fully lined with a lightweight cotton check fabric, with an additional internal breast pocket welted into the lining. The exterior is made from Gorsch's "Sunny Twill" a summer-weight wool & triacetate blend with some really interesting traits. Woven as a medium-weight chambray, it's extremely relaxed from the get-go, with a fluid drape reminiscent of well-worn rayon or linen textiles, a cool hand, and a gentle sheen throughout.
