Based out of Japan's Iwate Prefecture, one of the northernmost provinces, Gorsch (the brand) was born into a quiet rural life, taking inspiration from antique German tailoring and early proto-workwear. Produced in highly limited quantities, their garments are beautifully constructed, frequently making use of deadstock vintage textiles, with tailored silhouettes and unisex styling.
The Spring/Summer '25 collection takes inspiration from a variety of sources: the designer's artist friends, Buddhist concepts of spontaneity, and the turning of the weather as things get warmer. The cuts are breezy and relaxed, with drape and airflow prioritized for maximum comfort, and a really fantastic color palette that shows off the various fabrics.
The Check Skirt is a mid-calf length summer skirt with a floating internal lining and a voluminous fit. It's cut with an elasticated waistband that features an internal drawstring for additional fit adjustment, and two slash hand pockets for storage.
It's made from a lightweight linen/cotton blend check fabric that's breezy and comfortable from the moment you put it on, combining the drape and airiness of linen with the structure and softness of cotton. The "brown" colorway combines earthy reds, oranges, and shades of aubergine into a handsome low-contrast check pattern that's surprisingly easy to style.
