Blluemade's Autumn/Winter '23 collection takes inspiration from the architecture of New England, specifically the charming aesthetics of seaside homes in and around Cape Cod. The way these light, warm buildings, designed around a central hearth, contrast the Northeast's Winter landscape and late Autumn sun informed the color palate of their new styles.
The fabrics are selected with a similar mindset, choosing materials that are both soft and strong, comfortably warm but also sturdy and durable, a trait once again shared with the longstanding architecture of New England, as many original Colonial-Era homes still stand today.
Stylistically versatile but visually distinct, Blluemade's new Car Coat is a garment designed for its fabric. The body is made from an exceptionally plush and beautiful linen/wool blend tweed from Belgium, with a 100% Belgian linen lining inside. It's thick, insulating well and cutting a flattering silhouette thanks to the fabrics innately handsome blend of structure and drape.
The mill Blluemade primarily works with, in the Flanders region of Belgium, has been family-owned for five generations, is carbon-neutral, and oversees every part of the creation of its linen, from farming the flax, to the creation of the fabric, the dyeing, and the finishing. This is true Belgian Linen - a trademarked phrase that indicates that every part of the flax plant is Belgian and grown in Belgium - not flax seeds from Belgium being grown elsewhere and called "Belgian flax."
The design is simple, pairing well with a wide variety of different styles and levels of formality, but can easily be elevated beyond just "everyday jacket" into something truly special. The body is cut slightly long, with deep patch pockets that leave plenty of room for your hands, and sits naturally thanks to the vent in the back. It features a stand collar, which can be styled several different ways (up, closed, lapels...etc.) for maximum versatility, and chunky horn buttons close up the placket.
Each piece is designed in Brooklyn and then cut-and-sewn together in NYC's Garment District, at a family-owned and women-run workshop that Blluemade have been working with for years.
