Never officially produced or issued by the US military, these Mitchell camo trousers are built using the same pattern as TROUSERS, MEN’S, COTTON SATEEN, OG-107 that The Real McCoy's have painstakingly and meticulously reproduced from vintage samples and documents within their archives.
Following the various American Wars of the 20th century, military surplus and combat fabrics make their way into civilian markets, becoming recontextualized through peacetime. Double sided Mitchell camo is a great example, only ever officially being used for helmet covers and shelter halves, but exploding in popularity among civilian tailors - particularly in and around Okinawa. Even today it remains today as one of the most popular and sought after camouflage patterns amongst collectors.
Cut with a high rise and wide leg, they taper slightly to a still comfortably roomy leg opening that will easily fit over any boots, but still looks great with smaller shoes or sneakers. They've got four pockets for storing stuff, two slash pockets at the front and two flap pockets in the back, with a button fly, side tab adjusters, and tonal urea buttons throughout.
Made with a 100% cotton Mitchell camo fabric, they're sewn with the green "wine leaf" side out and the brown "Mitchell" pattern on the inside. The combination of these two designs is colloquially known as Mitchell camo now, but was originally referred to as Pattern-53, since technically only the brown side is Mitchell camo, having been designed by Mr Meldon Mitchell, an artist and former marine. The cotton fabric starts a little stiff, softening considerably after washing and only breaking in more over time.
