Lowercase was founded with the intent to localize the eyewear trade in the US, producing top-quality, thoughtfully designed glasses with the best materials available. The brainchild of a former investment banker, an architect, and a skilled craftsman, Lowercase has been making some of the very best acetate eyewear since 2016.
Every pair of glasses is made at their New York workshop in the Brooklyn Army Terminal, a massive warehouse complex in Sunset Park that was once a hub for military shipping, turned creative and industry center – with a surprisingly beautiful atrium that offers the Lowercase team inspiration.
Using traditional eyewear manufacturing techniques and modern technology, each pair of glasses goes through a 30-step production process – by some of the most skilled eyewear craftspeople in the country – that can take up to two weeks to complete. Lowercase only sources Italian and Japanese Acetate (a cotton-based plastic sourced from expert manufacturers), Carl Zeiss Sun Lenses, and precise German OBE hinges.
Staying small, Lowercase is flexible, able to produce only what they need with little waste, and able to stay creative. With detailed and fastidious construction and only the finest raw materials, Lowercase glasses are of exceptionally high quality and stand out in their design.
