Product details
Mister Freedom's Barnstormer jacket is modeled on US Navy peacoats of the pre-war era, as well as taking inspiration from vintage hunting jackets and Navy deck jackets. While far from being a reproduction, everything about the Barnstormer is done in a way that feels "plausible" to the era, taking direct reference from the variety of rugged civilian jackets that made their way on board US Navy ships, especially early in WWII. The result is a formidable jacket that looks as though it belongs both in a Quartermaster's inventory and the Montgomery Ward catalog.
This wind jammer of a jacket is made from an outer layer of heavy duty cotton 14 oz "jungle cloth" grosgrain used on WWII USN deck jackets. The body lining is a golden brown medium wale corduroy the sleeves lined in an equally impressive OG-107 sateen. All of these fabrics are milled in Japan. Sticking to its nautical roots, the jacket is adorned with ten early USN type "13 star" fouled anchor buttons
Under the collar, you'll find the traditional zig-zag reinforced stitching –– that helps keep it up –– and a detachable chin strap for the extra windy days. You can wear that button up or allow it to dangle down. The four main pockets are reinforced with black tea-core horsehide leather arrowhead pocket stops and pocket welt reinforcements and are lined with the same corduroy found in the lining.
The Barnstormer is made from raw unwashed fabric. The jacket is designed to fit true to marked size after an initial cold soak. Mister Freedom recommends a cold water soak for 30 to 40 minutes with occasional agitation. Then hang up till it is nearly dry and wear it until fully dry.
