Samuel Zelig is a brand to watch out for, featuring inspired riffs on workwear and sportswear classics that drip with personality - from every fabric to each individual embellishment. Primarily focused on knitwear, SZ produce "Uniform" style basics with extensive customization and personality, with each patch or embroidery designed in-house for each specific garment. Thanks to their unique design and shocking versatility, Samuel Zelig pieces have become a staple around our shops, easily worn as statement pieces or intermediate layers without ever feeling out of place.
The Ballet Hoodie is the "what-if" souvenir sweatshirt of a fictional ballet troupe (rather than the more standard sports team). Souvenir garments were a more commonplace style among college students through the 50s and 60s, with people having friends and associates write or embroider their names and designs onto an otherwise plain garment. The designs on this piece are all custom, with a mixture of running stitch and chainstitch embroidery throughout.
It's made from a 15oz, 100% cotton french terry cloth from Japan that's been given a vintage wash to prematurely patina the fabric and manage all shrinkage. The body is a standard pullover hoodie, with a full sized hood and bar-tack-reinforced kangaroo pocket at the front.
The construction is solid, from the inset sleeves to the double-needle coverstitched seams - it's built to last a long time. The inside of the knit is unbrushed, giving it a more dry and airy hand that is more suitable for year-round wear.
These run slightly large - if you're between sizes, we suggest taking the smaller of the two. Wash cold and dry flat.
