Product details
A bit of blue jeans history: in 1873, the Levi Strauss company patented the use of copper rivets as pocket reinforcements on their denim work pants. This wound up being one of the most consequential developments in workwear to date, revolutionizing and then standardizing construction best-practices for more than a century to come.
One year later, the Greenebaum Brothers released their own pair of work jeans - a heavy duty 3-pocket waist overall, with stitched leather triangles reinforcing each pocket in place of Levi's rivets. Now, 150 years later, Warehouse have reproduced the Greenebaum Leather Bound Overalls for an audience that would otherwise never have heard of them (as well as a handful of eager historians and enthusiasts).
Based on the historical predecessor of 5-pocket jeans, the Greenebaum waist overalls are cut with a high rise and relaxed top block, with an extended back yoke and plenty of room in the seat. The legs are wide and straight, relaxed and comfortable without appearing exaggerated, and sit flatteringly over whatever footwear you may prefer.
Made from a custom lightweight cotton selvedge denim (weighing in at about 11oz), it's a classic 2 by 1 twill fabric, woven from 7.5 x 16 (yarn count) threads with an indigo and grey finish. Fairly stiff and crunchy at first, the fabric will soften considerably over time, additionally fading from wear and washes as the indigo is lost.
The construction is outstandingly robust, with heavy duty felled seams down the legs, tight rows of high S.P.I. (stitches-per-inch) stitching, and of course, angular leather reinforcements at stress points for additional durability. Cut without belt loops, there are four button anchors for suspenders/braces to attach to, and an adjustable buckle-back to secure your fit.
Unsanforized, will shrink to tag size after a wash. Wash cold and hang dry.
