Product details
When John Lofgren sets out to build a pair of boots, he builds the most comfortable, highest quality boot he can. All of the work is done in Japan from start to finish, using the best leathers from around the world, Vibram soles, and John's own custom lasts.
The Lofgren Combat boot is their take on the classic perforated cap-toe military boot, an iconically handsome boot that doesn't sacrifice sturdiness or durability. Standing at 6" tall, with a classic combination of 4 (polished brass) eyelets and 3 matching speed hooks, they're built on the sleek Vibram 705 full sole (with matching Vibram 700 heel) - one of our favorite outsoles for its low profile and surprising blend of traction & durability.
Made from the reverse (roughout side) of Horween's CXL cowhide, an extremely sturdy and handsome leather that only gets better and better with time. Natural CXL is an extremely dynamic and (in our opinion underrated) leather - finished without any sort of dye applied, the leather starts out a light tan color and darkens over time, gaining a patina from light, moisture, and whatever else you may be walking through. Individual panels across the boots may begin as different hues of brown or tan, and will settle into a more uniform color with time and wear.
As far as leather goes, it's thick and sturdy, starting out noticeably stiff and requiring a few weeks of good wear to really break-in. After that, the leather begins to relax considerably, moulding to take the shape of the wearer's foot and softening at flex points to move more easily.
There's even more magic packed into the fit. Lofgren call these an E width, because they're plenty roomy throughout but we've found them to be pretty accommodating to almost everyone. We suggest still sizing these like most other Lofgren boots, and taking 0.5 size smaller than your brannock size. Over time, the footbed will collapse, taking the shape of your footstep, as the horsehide upper breaks in and conforms to the rest of your foot.
Choose 0.5 size smaller than your Brannock device size.
