11.11 is an exceptional label, with an ethos that strongly aligns with the S&S call to own fewer, better things — producing slow-fashion garments deliberately and sustainably across a network of local artisans and craftspeople throughout India. Everything they make is truly unique, with an undeniably natural and "human" element, from their patchwork and kantha embroidery, to the irregular nature of their low-tension handwoven textiles, to the tie-dye and natural indigo finishes, all of which will patina beautifully over time.
The Zed Trousers are a running favorite style from 11.11, cut from a hand spun, organic, yarn-dyed denim. They feature a relaxed fit, with a high rise, roomy top block, and wide pleated legs, with an adjustable waistband that ties closed at the front. The final product is part workwear and part easy-pant, with a simple unisex fit that looks flattering on just about everyone.
Machine woven for durability and longevity, the yarns that eventually become the denim are themselves handspun on a single spindle charkha. The "Midnight Indigo" color is entirely natural, produced from a mixture of natural indigo, rust, and a harda solution - harvested locally from the Indian landscape. Initially a deep indigo/charcoal color, the fabric will fade over time, developing a unique patina from wearing and washing.
It's finished with a few of our favorite subtle 11.11 details - tiny contrast embroidery on the left pocket, a partially-lined interior, and selvedge outseam details. According to 11.11, it takes 8 artisans approximately 32 hours to make one pair of these trousers, which is a nice thing to think about and appreciate every time you put these on.
Unisex - true to size with an adjustable waistband and a roomy fit. Machine wash on delicate, or hand wash, and hang dry.
