Run by designer Daniel Olatunji, Monad London produces beautiful handmade garments with a unique blend of precise tailoring and what Daniel calls meticulous imperfection. A graduate of Central Saint Martins in London, Daniel's pursuit of perfection lead him full circle, now embracing a very natural chaos in his details — raw edges, mismatched buttons, aged fabrics, and hand stitching contrast & compliment the immaculate construction of each piece.
The same approach is taken with their materials, seeking out handwoven or deadstock textiles from artisan makers and antique dealers, selecting only the very best and most interesting fabrics for each new style. The designs are inspired by what we'd call "working wear" — shirts, trousers, and even suits made from hardy materials and worn by blue collar workers through the middle of the 20th century. These pieces were lived in by the people who wore them, developing a unique character over time that Monad London manage to reproduce and reimagine.
The Wysman Pant is a cropped-leg interpretation of a more formal tuxedo trouser, with a great silhouette and unique construction details. The top block is cut without a front or back yoke, with a narrow (and adjustable) waistband and pleats at the front and back of the legs just beneath it. They've got three pockets, two for your hands and one at the rear with a raw-edged flap cover, and more unfinished edges at the hem, just beneath the turned-up cuffs.
They've got a relaxed top block, with a high rise and roomy seat that pairs with the slightly oversized waist, which can be brought in with the metal side tab adjusters for a more dramatic silhouette. The legs are tapered, wide at the top and less so at the opening, never reaching slim, but also not so roomy as to be exaggerated, with a very "natural" leg shape that ends in a deliberately cropped cuff.
The indigo edition is made from a completely handsewn patchwork of 100% Nigerian cotton handwoven indigo-dyed offcuts, with each pair being completely unique as a result. Employing a variety of different weaves and textures, the different shades and finishes of each indigo fabric will fade differently over time, producing a truly unique patina with wear. The soft external patchwork is further complimented by the 100% cotton lining through the entire inside, with a meticulous clean-finish interior for additional comfort and durability.
These run large through the waist, with a relaxed fit and cropped leg. Dry clean.
