McCoy's doing what they do best - atelier-made style reproductions of the most iconic leather jackets from the past 100 years. A deep obsession with quality over the entire life of a garment is what sets The Real McCoy's leather jackets apart from all others. It begins at the Shinki tannery, where they have their own separate temperature and humidity controlled room to store hides destined for their jackets. From there, each panel is cut from specific parts of the hide based on stretch, grain, and thickness to match the needs of that area of the garment. Any thin areas or scars are rejected, to prevent failure a decade down the road.
After their dedicated cutter cuts the panels, every jacket is sewn at The Real McCoy's atelier in Kobe. A single craftsman builds the entire jacket from start to finish. All of the trim and details are also just as exacting. The hardware is custom produced to perfectly replicate the originals, from the belt buckles, to the bell-shaped Talon zipper, to the custom woven labels.
Introduced in the 1940s, the B-6 jacket was was offered as less cumbersome version of the iconic B-3 Jacket to high altitude flight crews, like bombers, during the second World War. Designed with the intention of offering improved mobility over the B-3, the B-6 features a gusseted bi-swing back, removed epaulets, fewer front panels, two hand pockets, and a smaller collar (among other details).
For their reproduction, McCoy's have upgraded a few details, switching the original spec of 1/4" sheepskin for much higher quality 1/2" sheepskin to provide additional warmth, durability, and comfort. The combination tanned leather is made in Japan, and finished with a custom lacquer coating designed to recreate the exact look and feel of the vintage B-6 samples in the McCoy's archives. Over time, this will age just like an original, but with the added benefits of heavier materials and exceptionally high quality construction.
