McCoy's doing what they do best - atelier-made style reproductions of the most iconic leather jackets from the past 100 years. A deep obsession with quality over the entire life of a garment is what sets The Real McCoy's leather jackets apart from all others. It begins at the Shinki tannery, where they have their own separate temperature and humidity controlled room to store hides destined for their jackets. From there, each panel is cut from specific parts of the hide based on stretch, grain, and thickness to match the needs of that area of the garment. Any thin areas or scars are rejected, to prevent failure a decade down the road.
After their dedicated cutter cuts the panels, every jacket is sewn at The Real McCoy's atelier in Kobe. A single craftsman builds the entire jacket from start to finish. All of the trim and details are also just as exacting. The hardware is custom produced to perfectly replicate the originals, from the belt buckles, to the bell-shaped Talon zipper, to the custom woven labels.
The B-3 is inarguably one of the most iconic and recognizable military jackets of the last 150 years. Originally issued to high altitude flight crews, like bombers, during the second World War, it was one of the earliest-adopted shearling flight jackets, offering (for the time) exceptional warmth and mobility given its weight. McCoy's reproduction is extremely faithful, matching details down to the stitching with originals in their archive, and upgrading materials and trims everywhere possible.
Made from an extremely plush and unreasonably soft shearling sheepskin, the pile ranges in thickness from 10mm to 25mm, a surprisingly substantial density when considering the entire body and sleeves are lined all the way down to the hem and cuffs. The body is wrapped in a lightweight cowhide shell for extra durability, and features vegetable-tanned horsehide trims throughout.
The body is fairly plain, with only a single bucket pocket and an uncovered zip placket (just as the originals did). The wool collar can be worn up and belted closed if desired, and the waist includes two side tab adjusters to bring in the fit even more when necessary. Inside, a custom "reproduction" Real McCoy's woven label and chain hanger sit beneath the collar, almost buried inside the wool lining.
Fits true to size. Do not wash or machine dry.
