Description

The Roots Engineers are a seriously heavy-duty pair of boots with a surprisingly sleek profile (but a pretty chunky top-down shape). They've got a round structured-toe and double row stitchdown construction, as well as a logger heel and a thick outsole. They're built to last (and can be resoled or rebuilt by any trusted cobbler) and will only get better with age as they break-in: stretching, relaxing, and taking the shape of your feet.

The leather is really serious — an exceptionally thick and dense Italian tea core (meaning that over time the black exterior will wear down and reveal the natural brown interior) horsebutt. The hides are hand-selected and then given a final oil treatment in Japan before being cut and sewn into boots. Brand new, it's a very stiff leather that will take some serious wear to properly break-in, making these a bit challenging to put on or take off for the first few wears. The expertly selected horsebutt will form large, gentle rolls as it wears in, differing from the more tight creases that aged cowhide will develop.

They've got two solid brass roller buckles each as hardware, with the woven labels and branding all hidden inside the boot. A custom-made The Boots Factory oil-resistant cork outsole & Quabaug heel provide excellent comfort & traction without compromising the low profile of the sole, and a leather pull tab at the heel makes putting them on easier, especially after they've broken in.

These are built on the Munson last. For average volume and D-width feet, we suggest choosing 1 full size smaller than your Brannock measurement. If you have particularly wide feet, you may only need to choose 0.5 size smaller than Brannock.
